Podocarpus is a genus of conifers and gets its name from the Greek, podos, meaning “foot”, and karpos, meaning “fruit”. This evergreen plant originates from Japan and China and is characterized by long, slender dark green leaves with a leather-like finish. The leaves measure approximately 3 to 4 inches in length and grow on woody stems measuring about 15 to 24 inches long. There are many creative uses for this type of greenery. It is often used for designing freeform bouquets and arrangements for rustic or country-chic wedding themes. We love the look of a loose bouquet of podocarpus, hypericum berries, and roses tied together with a satin ribbon. For a romantic, vintage wedding, consider using them to accent a voluminous floral design of peonies, roses, and ranunculus. Podocarpus also makes a great choice for creating garlands, swags and wedding arches; group them with salal and eucalyptus greens and accent them with colorful flowers.
